Improving outcomes for difficult-to-recycle timbers

Timbercycle invests in ongoing research and development to improve recycling outcomes for timber materials that are currently difficult to process and often directed to landfill.

Timbercycle’s R&D team works across a range of complex timber waste streams, including:

  • Laminated timbers

  • Particle board and MDF

  • Painted timbers

  • Treated and chemically processed timbers

  • Composite and engineered wood products

R&D activities are focused on improving processing techniques, trialling safe treatment methods, identifying viable end-markets, and running pilot programs to test emerging technologies.

The objective is clear: deliver continuous improvement and real recovery outcomes, even for materials traditionally considered unrecyclable.

Working together to advance timber recycling solutions

Timbercycle believes the future of timber recycling depends on collaboration, innovation, and shared problem-solving. Where recovery pathways do not yet exist, we actively seek partnerships that can deliver measurable progress.

We collaborate with:

  • Manufacturers and product developers

  • Recycling technology providers

  • Universities and research institutions

  • Material scientists and designers

  • Councils and government bodies

  • Construction, demolition, and infrastructure operators

Timbercycle provides real-world testing environments, operational scale, consistent material volumes, and data-driven feedback to support trials that can be measured, refined, and scaled.

If timber is still going to landfill, we believe there is more work to be done — and we are committed to being part of the solution.
